Meet Pip & Charlie, two of our newest little residents at The Little Black Goat!
Their arrival here wasn’t exactly planned. While at the feed store one day, my son spotted two tiny Muscovy ducklings and immediately wanted to bring them home. I explained that we couldn’t. As a sanctuary, we do not purchase animals—animals who come into our care must be surrendered to us.
Unknowingly, on my husband’s way home from work a little while later, he stopped at that very same store to pick up dog food. He learned about the two little ducklings and that they could be surrendered into our care. That evening, he came home with Pip and Charlie!
Muscovy ducks are commonly raised for meat, so it’s quite possible that would have eventually been their fate. Instead, Pip and Charlie now have a home where they’ll be able to grow up and live out their natural lives.
They arrived at the beginning of August as tiny hatchlings and are growing unbelievably fast. We’re pretty sure Charlie is a boy and Pip may actually be a Pippa—but that’s still to be determined!
These two have completely won us over. They spend their days exploring, splashing, making messes and doing all the wonderful things young ducks should get to do.
As they grow, so do their needs. Pip and Charlie need proper feed, plenty of fresh water and a safe space to call home. Our next big goal is to raise funds to build them a pond where they can swim, splash and enjoy life as naturally as possible. 🦆💦🌿
